My verdict
I check prices, not products — this is about whether the current price is real, not a review of range or throughput. And it holds up: sitting at its lowest tracked price, meaningfully below its real recent average — not a struck-through list price. The RE550 is a dual-band AC1900 extender with a Gigabit Ethernet port, which matters if you want to wire a device (a TV, a console) through the extender rather than relying on WiFi alone. The tradeoff: range extenders create a second network name in many setups unless you specifically configure EasyMesh with a compatible router, and even then, extending WiFi always costs some real-world speed versus being closer to the main router — this fixes dead zones, it doesn't match router-level performance.
Buy it if
- Fixing a genuine dead zone — a garage, basement, or far bedroom the main router doesn't reach
- Anyone who wants a wired Ethernet port at the extended location, not just WiFi — useful for a TV or game console
- Households with an EasyMesh-compatible TP-Link router wanting one unified network name instead of a separate extender SSID
Skip it if
- You don't have a genuine coverage problem — extenders solve dead zones, they don't make a working network meaningfully faster
- You want mesh-level seamless roaming without any setup — that's a different product category than a single extender
- Your router isn't EasyMesh compatible and you don't want a separate WiFi network name for the extended signal
